Is epigenetics the future of nutrition?

Epigenetics, is today one of the most extraordinary areas of scientific research.

Our genetic makeup (DNA) is our blue  print but new scientific discoveries are showing that what we eat and  drink influences how this blue print is  read and implemented.

The old concept that genes control life has been replaced by the science of epigenetics, revealing that genes cannot turn themselves on and off. Though years of research, scientist have now concluded that our environment actually triggers gene activity.

Epigenetics, is today one of the most extraordinary areas of scientific research.

Think of our DNA as the computer hard-drive so to speak and our cell membrane and its organelles are the software architects that read and implement certain parts of our hard drive based on what it comes into contact with. What it is programmed by!

Epigenetics literally means ‘control above your genes’ – it’s a science on how our environments effects our lives. What we eat, drink, breath, touch, feel, believe, how we actually live and what we perceive, select and modify, actually regulates our gene activity. It’s in a constant flux shaping our biology day by day, cell by cell.

Our cells are affected by the environment in which they are placed. Meaning, we all have the opportunity to bring about disease or wellbeing within ourselves.

Don’t be fooled that your health conditions are inherited or you have no control, this science is becoming out of date. Epigenetics, is today one of the most extraordinary areas of scientific research. On average this new science shows us 95% of our health is not genetically determined, not a result of destiny, its a self created destiny. (Dr. Randy Jirtle Utah University)

Lets stop and think for a moment, if this is the case – based on factors such as nutrition, i.e. what we eat and drink, can change the way certain parts of our DNA blue print is read and implemented. We must consider the importance of how we live our lives because it does determine our future. If our lifestyle quite literally switches our genes on or off, what are we doing on a daily basis to take care of ourselves?

Thankfully we are now seeing a new model of wellbeing in the world, in which we are no longer victims of our heredity, more that our lives and our health is quite literally in our own hands, on our plates and in our mind.

Body purification is part of this new paradigm and functional foods need to be considered the building blocks of our current and future health.

Our wellbeing is not just ‘modified’ by nutrition, it is imperative, if we wish to stay health and active, having a long and happy, disease free life.

We must consider the importance of how we live our lives, because it does determine our future. If our lifestyle quite literally switches our genes on or off, what are we doing on a daily basis to take care of ourselves?

Of course some of us are predisposed to certain health issues, such as cancer, heart disease or obesity, but research shows that we can keep those genes dormant, or at least counteract their activity by improving our nutrition, our habits and how we choose to live our life. In simple terms we can actually change the very behaviour of our cell at any given time.
